Medical Weight Loss

What is Medical Weight Loss?

Medical weight loss refers to a weight loss program supervised by a physician who specializes in weight loss. Such programs use proactive management of diet, fitness and other lifestyle changes to facilitate weight loss when you can’t do it on your own. These programs may offer meal plans for diets you’ve heard of and those that you have not.The truth is these programs work. They are supervised by a certified physician and based in science. Weight loss is nothing more than consuming fewer calories than your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE).

Here’s the unfortunate fact: losing weight does not come easy for a lot of people. In fact, it can be very frustrating especially when one does not see the expected results despite having followed the regimens of their implemented diet to the letter.

At Shah Wellness and Medspa, we offer several diets for you to choose from that will fit your lifestyle and culinary preferences. If you like bacon cheeseburgers with mayonnaise and fries, we will work out a keto meal plan that fits into your daily calorie budget.

If you’re having trouble losing weight or keeping it off, call Shah Wellness and Medspa or book an appointment online to ask about physician-supervised medical weight loss. Dr. Sunny Shah and her team will help you identify and overcome the obstacles that are preventing you from reaching your goals.

All of Dr Shah’s physician-supervised weight loss programs consist of four stages:

  1. The program starts with a complete medical evaluation. Dr. Shah will help determine if there are medications or health conditions that are contributing to weight gain or making it difficult for you to lose weight. She will recommend alternatives or counteracting medications whenever possible. Your health will be carefully monitored throughout the program.
  2. Restructuring diet and exercise habits for significant weight loss
  3. Controlling appetite to optimize weight loss
  4. Maintaining results through food variety and adjusting for natural changes as you age.

How long the first two steps take depends on your age, gender, weight, and conditions, but you should expect to invest at least a few months before reaching your ideal weight. The last two steps involve lifestyle changes that you should incorporate for the rest of your life. You don’t have to struggle to overcome obesity and related conditions on your own. Ensure your safety and improve your results with a physician-supervised medical plan from Shah Wellness and Medspa. Call or make an appointment online today.

What to expect at the Weight Loss Consultation with Dr Shah

If you’ve tried to lose weight for a while, you may have some anxiety about what to expect. It’s normal to be nervous before your first appointment.

At your first appointment, your doctor will talk with you about:

  • your weight loss goals,
  • what your day-to-day routine looks like (diet and exercise),
  • how long you’ve tried to lose weight, and
  • your medical history.
  • Body measurements/pictures
  • Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure body composition, which divides your weight into different components, such as Lean Body Mass and Fat Mass, to assess health and help guide interventions.

Your doctor’s goal is to help you find the best treatment so you can lose weight and keep it off in the long-term.

Your doctor will talk with you to determine whether you’d benefit from treatments like:

  • simple diet and exercise,
  • stress management,
  • behavioral or mental health therapy,
  • weight loss medications
  • vitamin injections

Your first appointment will last for about 60 minutes.

Follow-up appointments will last for about 30 minutes.
